An interesting challenge presented to us by an existing client in North Bradley near Trowbridge. We’d previously supplied and fitted a gorgeous bright red carpet in the living room and later in the dining room of this lovely, quirky old cottage. The client now wanted us to provide vinyl flooring for the adjacent kitchen, hallway, utility and WC.
Importantly, the vinyl needed to harmonise with the bold pink units and almost butter-coloured tiles of the kitchen. Needing to avoid anything that risked looking too yellow or too peach in tone, after a great deal of research during a COVID lockdown, we suggested Cirrus vinyl in the colour Eggshell made by Furlong Flooring. It was the perfect complement.
Since we were laying the product over an existing quarry tile floor, which the client was finding too cold under foot, we also had to do an amount of floor preparation. As the product was a plain vinyl with a cushion back, it was imperative that we smooth the tiling’s grout lines in order to avoid them showing through the vinyl.
We had to degrease and apply a liquid DPM followed by smoothing compound for which we decide to use ARDEX UK MVS 95 Rapid DPM followed by Ardex NA smoothing compound meaning that the time involved in doing the floor preparation was kept to a minimum.
Mission accomplished, this fresh and modern vinyl flooring from Furlong Flooring has given this lovely old cottage a fresh and modern look that is both very hard-wearing and on-trend. And being foam-backed, it brings excellent impact resistance and heat insulation properties too – it is both comfortable underfoot and energy efficient.
And just to add that we were more than happy to liaise with the client regarding Mack the cat’s short stay away in a cattery while we got on with the job. We trust he had an enjoyable and stress-free holiday. Sadly Mack was not available for comment or photo.
